  Tirur- the birth place of Thunchth Ramanujan Ezhuthachan (16 th century)- father of Malayalam language. It  lies in south west of Malappuram district -one of the 14 district in Kerala - which in fact is the souther most state of India. This place has a great historical significance. It is here where the first railway station was built in Kerala, and its have where the corps of Wagon Tragedy (Malabar Mutiny -1921) was concealed and the municipal town hall of Tirur is its memorial.

        Tirur has municipal administration headed by Municipal chair person Mrs. Kunjibeevi . Tirur has 448 Km sqr of area and a population of  834,762 according to 2001 census. There are 30 villages in Tirur municipality
